Mammoth Cave National Park, KY

After the horse park, we came down to see Mammoth Cave.  There is a campground right next to the visitor's center and we stayed there.  It is strictly dry camping.  There are deer in the park everywhere.  They are not afraid of people or Starr!  I felt someone or something staring at me and turned around and it was a deer.

Here's the entrance to the cave.

We were there on Halloween and how's this for a scary picture?  Sure looks like the cave was looking out at us.

There was also bats in the cave!!!

There was a pack rat there making her nest for the next two months.  I wasn't able to get a picture of her.  But rats in the cave too!!!!

So here are a couple of pictures of the formations in the cave.  These are from the Frozen Niagara Tour.

And here are some pictures from the past mining they did for salt peter.  Once the war of 1812 was over, they just walked away from the mining operation.  The "pipes" are made from trees.  They just hollowed out the centers.
